After the pope’s death, his ring (the so-called Fisherman’s Ring) is taken and destroyed
When Cardinal Lawrence is tasked with leading one of the most secretive and oldest events in the world: the election of a new pope, he finds himself in the middle of a conspiracy that could shake the foundations of the Catholic Church. Much of what Cardinal Lawrence and the other cardinals do during the conclave depicted in the film is in keeping with the Catholic faith and centuries-old tradition. The Vatican officially declares the throne of the Holy See (the governing body of the Catholic Church) vacant. The papal apartments are cordoned off with a red ribbon and sealed with the papal wax seal.
It is said that Ayendi will be the first African Pope
The College of Cardinals is secluded in the chambers (Domus Sanctae Marthae, House of Saint Martha), where they eat and sleep between votes. Finally, the windows and doors of the Sistine Chapel, where the elections and votes take place, are darkened, closed and locked to preserve the secrecy of the conclave. The Roman Catholic Church has had three African Popes: Victor I (189-199 CE), Miltiades (also known as Melchiades, 311-314 CE), and Gelasius I (492-496 CE). ..
Therefore, faith is not necessary
Lawrence: Our faith is alive precisely because it goes hand in hand with doubt. If there were only certainty and no doubt, there would be no mystery. Let us pray that God gives us a Pope who doubts. And may he give us a Pope who sins, asks for forgiveness, and moves on..
However, the final twist seemed unnecessary

Conclave is a great film, and all the actors did a great job. The ending of the film was announced early on, so the final choice of the next pope was not a big surprise.
There are some interesting visual elements and color schemes that I did not expect
There was no proper build-up, so it felt like a real twist, but more like an extra. Also, the dramatic showdown between all the main candidates was engaging, although I felt that the conservative Italian was more of a caricature used as a contrast, rather than a star in the true sense of the word. I am sure the film will be an Oscar contender, but I do not think it has enough depth to win anything.
