Well, I’m glad
The concept of the new Emmanuelle didn’t appeal to me at all and the many negative reviews put me off. I think very few people understood the film: although some people try to compare it with the original, it is much less exotic and useless.
But it is a film with exceptional sexual tension
On the other hand, if others find it silly to portray explicit sexuality, then they don’t understand what sexuality is. Of course, the film isn’t just an almost complete rewrite of the original (at least on the surface, as inspiration abounds for those familiar with the original material).
This tension is maintained by a clinical, and some would say, cold direction that leaves much unsaid
But this coldness is necessary to understand what really hits our heart: the portrait of a woman full of uniqueness who seeks her individuality through independence that is not far from loneliness. This is what the general audience is confused about: How can you make a «libertine» (as in shared sex) film about a single person (as opposed to a group)?
